Kenveil Shield

A free extension for Chrome, Edge and Brave. It stops pop-ups and redirects, takes fake robot checks off pages, declines cookie banners, blocks trackers and warns you about scam sites. No account, nothing to pay, and nothing leaves your browser.

What it stops

Everything is on from the start. You can switch each part off in its settings, or pause it on one site.

  • Pop-ups and pop-unders

Clicking a video or anywhere on a page no longer opens ad tabs behind your back. Links and buttons you really click still open.

  • Redirects

A click on a page can’t send your tab to another site, and known pop-up ad networks are blocked outright, also as a whole tab.

  • Fake “I’m not a robot” checks

Boxes that pretend to be a robot check but are really ads are taken off the page, and their requests to send you notifications are turned down.

  • Paste-a-command scams

Pages that tell you to press Windows + R and paste something “to verify” are stopped with a full warning, and the command never reaches your clipboard.

  • Cookie banners

Kenveil Shield presses “Reject all” or “Only necessary” for you. It never presses accept, and a banner without a reject button is left alone.

  • Trackers

About 440 known addresses of ad networks, analytics, social media pixels and session recording are blocked. The number on the shield shows how many on the page you are on.

  • Tracking in links

Click IDs, campaign tags and share IDs (utm_source, fbclid, YouTube’s si and more) come off a link before the page opens, and links stop reporting your clicks to other addresses.

  • Look-alike sites

Addresses made to look like PayPal, your bank or another well-known site get a warning before you type anything.

  • Unencrypted forms

A note appears when a password or card field is about to be filled in on a page without https.

  • Your network address in WebRTC

Calls in the browser may only use the address every site already sees, so pages can’t read your home network’s address or get around a VPN.

What it can’t do

  • It doesn’t hide your IP address

Every site still sees your public IP address: that is how the internet sends pages back to you. To hide it you need a VPN, such as Relay in the Kenveil app.

  • It isn’t a full ad blocker

It stops pop-ups, redirects and the ad networks that track you. An ad a site serves from its own servers can still show.

  • It works in Chromium browsers

Chrome, Edge, Brave and other browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store. Not Firefox or Safari yet.

What it asks for, and why

Chrome will say Kenveil Shield can “read and change all your data on all websites”. It needs that to stop a pop-up or a cookie banner inside the page where it happens. Every check runs on your computer: Kenveil Shield has no account, no server and no code that sends anything anywhere, and an automatic test checks every build for it.

You can limit it to the sites you choose in Chrome’s own extension menu, and pause it on any site from its popup.

How to add it

  1. Open Kenveil Shield in the Chrome Web Store and press “Add to Chrome”.
  2. Pin it: open the puzzle piece next to the address bar and press the pin beside Kenveil Shield.
  3. Browse as usual. Click the shield to see what it stopped on the page you are on.

Kenveil Shield works without the Kenveil app. If you use the app, add Kenveil Connect as well: it links your browser to the app. See the download page.
